Cutout of Maxim mid-skate at Legacy on Ice

ABOUT

Maxim Naumov, born on August 1, 2001 in Hartford, Connecticut, is a distinguished American figure skater celebrated for his artistry, technical prowess, and commanding performances in men's singles. Skating is more than a passion for Maxim - it's in his DNA. As the son of 1994 World Figure Skating pairs champions Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, he was immersed in the sport from an early age, growing up under the watchful eyes of two of the world's finest athletes.

Lacing up his first pair of skates at just five years old, Maxim quickly found his rhythm on the ice, blending power with elegance. His early years were not confined to the rink alone; he also trained in gymnastics, a discipline that enhanced his agility, balance, and explosive athleticism - qualities that would later define his skating style. Maxim's journey through both sport and education has been marked by dedication and resilience. After graduating from Simsbury High School in 2019, he continued his academic pursuits through Arizona State University, allowing him the flexibility to train at an elite level while expanding his intellectual horizons. He is passionate about psychology, science and mental wellness.

Maxim's journey through both sport and education has been marked by dedication and resilience. After graduating from K12 International Academy in 2019, he continued his academic pursuits through Arizona State University, allowing him the flexibility to train at an elite level while expanding his intellectual horizons. He is passionate about psychology, science and mental wellness. With a deep respect for his family's legacy and an unrelenting drive to carve his own path, Maxim continues to captivate audiences with his performances, proving that the ice is not just where he competes—it's where he belongs. He balances training with passions off the ice — music mixing, biking, podcasts, time with friends — preserving a sense of normalcy and grounding. From the start, skating was more than sport — it was family, legacy, life.

On January 29, 2025, his parents — along with many in the skating community — tragically died in a plane-helicopter collision. In the wake of this unimaginable loss, Maxim has chosen to skate on — not out of obligation, but out of love, memory, and purpose. “I don't think about lists anymore. I just skate freely.” At the 2025 Legacy on Ice tribute show, he honored them with a deeply emotional performance that moved the audience to tears and earned a standing ovation in front of 21,000 people in attendance.

For the current season, Maxim trains under Vladimir Petrenko, with renewed focus and determination.
